  1. Immersion in the Hatha Yoga tradition 

    Yoga retreat in Portugal 14-19 May 2017 (english & spanish)

    Yoga is the path to freedom and fulfillment. The yoga tradition focuses on developing a still mind and the ability to perceive our self and our world completely. This retreat will cover and explore the methods through which this tradition develops the foreground to experience freedom and fulfillment. 
    Every day we will focus on the three main aspects of practice which involve the body (Asana), the breath (Pranayama) and the mind (Meditation) in order to experience the full potential of the practice.
    Afternoon sessions will cover techniques that range from the philosophical and energetic point of view to a more contemporary approach with the "anatomy labs", focusing on biomechanics and alignment.

    This retreat is a very special opportunity to enjoy a week in nature with great vegetarian food and amazing surroundings and to dive into the tradition of Hatha Yoga. The program is expertly designed by Borja Sainz in order to introduce the material to begginers as well as to help other fellow yoga teachers to deepen their practice and teaching methods.

    Session 1 – 15 may
    Form vs Function: breath centered practice

    9:00 – 10:45 morning asana
    • Asana y Pranayama. How to affect our nervous system through the breath and the precise sequencing of poses (Vinyasa karma). This first session will focus on forward bends to address vata dosha imbalances and activate the parasympathetic nervous system.

    12:30 - 13:30
    • 7 steps of Hatha Yoga. Deepen your knowledge in Hatha Yoga as a purification system as well as develop an understanding about the tradition and evolution in contemporary yoga practice. Understand asana as a tool do develop stability in order to access the transforming practice of pranayama and establish the ground for meditation.

    19:00 – 20:30
    • “Meditation is the key”. How to use breath and pranayama in order to access a state where meditation may flourish. In the Yoga tradition meditation is considered a state that develops, not something you can actually do or practice.

    Session 2 – 16 MAY
    Energetic stability 

    9:00 – 10:45 morning asana
    • The energetic effect of asana and breath in order to access and purify our nadis (energy channels) and develop our connection to Prana. During this session, we will develop awareness of this universal energy with the use of bandhas, breath retention and suspension as well as the correct method to practice nadi shodana, alternate nostril breathing.

    18:30 - 20:30
    • “Anatomy Lab – lower body”. Study and apply adjustments for different types of asanas. Develop awareness on refined muscular actions in order to correctly align our legs and deal with issues in our hips, knees, ankles as well as major group muscles in the legs that can help us stabilize and extend our lower spine.

    Session 3 – 17 MAY
    Develop calmness through the moon qualities of practice. 

    9:00 – 10:45 morning asana
    • Lunar practice. How to develop calmness and ground ourselves in the experience to make it long lasting. Practice inner awareness through your breath during your asana practice in order to facilitate and access a state of meditation. Learn to apply ujjayi 1:2 breathing.

    12:30 - 13:30
    • Prana Vayus. The nature of Prana and how it moves through our body. Kriyas to calm and stabilize apana, prana, samana, udana y vyana.

    18:30 - 20:30
    • “Anatomy Lab – upper body”. Study and apply adjustments for different types of asanas, including inversions. Develop awareness on refined muscular actions in order to correctly align the arms and deal with possible issues in the shoulders, elbows and wrists. Biomechanics of our neck and upper spine.

    Session 4 – 18 MAY
    Expand and thrive with the solar qualities of practice. 

    9:00 – 10:45 morning asana
    • Solar practice. How to enhance our energy and keep it stable for our inner development. Backbend and extension practice to open the chest. Introduction to kapalabhati, jalandhara bandha and the correct use of breath retention.

    19:00 - 20:30
    • Yin yoga & Yoga Nidra. Understand your fascia through a relaxing Yin yoga practice and then dive into the restorative and metabolic healing experience of Yoga Nidra. 

    Session 5 – 19 MAY
    Inner fire & farewell.

    9:00 – 11:00 morning asana
    • Dynamic practice centered around the use of breath and bandha to connect our movements and inner awareness. Cultivate the energy around the abdomen and manipura chakra 

    Prices start at 500€ in shared room per person, food included (breakfast/lunch/dinner)
